EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PASSES N342.8B 2024 APPROPRIATION BILL                                                                                                                      23-12-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The Edo State House of Assembly has passed the 2024 budget estimates of N342.8 billion as against the N325.3 billion presented to the House by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The approved budget by the House comprises recurrent expenditure of N154.2bn and capital expenditure estimates of N188.5bn.

The passage of the budget was sequel to the consideration of the report of the house committee on Appropriation, Budget and project monitoring on the year 2024 appropriation bill presented by its chairman, Chief Sunny Ojiezele on the floor of the House.

Chief Ojiezele while presenting the report said the committee came up with an increase in the budgetary allocation to ensure completion of all ongoing projects in the state.

The House at the committee of supply, subjected the budget estimates to clause by clause consideration where the report of the committee was approved with the increase from the earlier proposed sum of N325.3bn to N342.8bn.

The speaker, Mr Blessing Agbebaku, thereafter directed the clerk of the House, Alhaji Audu Omogbai to forward clean copies of the bill to the governor for his assent.

Meanwhile, the house unanimously passed a vote of implicit confidence on the speaker for his leadership qualities and for leading the house in the right direction

The motion for the implicit confidence was moved by the member representing Etsako West two Constituency, Mr Gani Akokhia and seconded by the member representing Ikpoba Okha Constituency, Mr Nicolas Asonsere.
