HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PASSES 2024 BUDGET WITH AN INCREASE OF OVER 1TRILLION NAIRA                                                                                30-12-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The House of Representatives has passed the budget of over Twenty Eight point Seven trillion naira for 2024 fiscal year.

The passage followed the adoption of the report by the House committee on Appropriation.

The 2024 budget passed by the House has an increase of one point two trillion Naira from the the 27.5 trillion Naira budget proposal presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The House passed the 2024 Budget Estimates after extensive deliberations and defense with the Heads of MDA’s, as well as town hall meetings with the citizens for their inputs.

The Speaker Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, who observed that the House through its various committees will closely monitor the implementation of the 2024 budget when assented by the president, stressed that the house will continue to put the citizens interests first in its legislative functions.

The Chairman House Committee on Appropriation Abubakar Bichi, explained that the additional increase of 1.2 trillion Naira in the Budget was due to the nation’s exchange rate.

The Chairman Committee on Public Procurement, Mr. Unyime Idem while reacting to the passage of the Budget by the House, urged MDA’s to commence implementation with procurement process for the 2024 before the funds are released.
The Spokesman of the House Mr Akin Rotimi, said the budget process was participatory as citizens were engaged for their contributions and inputs during town hall meetings.
The 2024 appropriation bill when assented to by the President, is expected to address some of the infrastructure, health care, education, security and other challenges confronting the nation.
