FG ORDERS IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF 42,000 M.T. OF ASSORTED GRAINS FROM STRATEGIC RESERVES FOR SALE                                                                  08-02-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       Federal Government has ordered the immediate release of 42 thousand metric tonnes of assorted grains from its strategic reserves for sale to the public at affordable prices.

The government has also reached an agreement with local rice millers to make available 60 thousand metric tonnes of the commodity for sale at affordable prices.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Muhammad Idris, who stated this in Abuja, said the aim was to flood markets with enough food items to crash soaring prices of the commodities.

The Minister said government was also looking at the possibility of importing staple food items, in the short run, to completely stabilise the current situation, preparatory to rolling out the long term measures adopted.

In the long-run, Alhaji Muhammad Idris said the the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security would invest massively in food production in the coming rainy season to solve the food crisis being experienced.

He appealed to food hoarders to empathise with Nigerians suffering from their handiwork, otherwise government would do the needful, within the law, to sanction them.

On bandits’ evil activities against farmers, the Minister advised farmers to form clusters to enable security personnel protect them.

He also appealed to Nigerians to be patriotic enough and desist from quoting the dollar in local transactions.
