NAFDAC SEIZES SUBSTANDARD MEDICINES WORTH OVER N5 MILLION AT GARKI-AREA 1, MOTOR PARK, ABUJA.                                                      12-02-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                    The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has seized substandard and falsified medicines worth over N5 million at Garki-Area 1, Motor Park, Abuja.

The exercise started calmly but was suddenly disrupted by hoodlums who attacked the team and destroyed the patrol vehicles, causing the police men to fire back and take cover.

After the raid, the Assistant Chief Regulating Officer, Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of NAFDAC, Mr. Umar Suleiman said the menace of substandard medicines has constituted a serious threat to public health.

Mr. Umar Suleiman described the incident as one of the major occurrences being faced and mentioned some of the hard drugs seized.

Mr. Suleiman said the exercise was carried out routinely and destruction of the drugs would be done to prevent their re-introduction to the supply chain.

The enforcement operation will continue on Tuesday, this week, within the Federal Capital Territory.
