CENTER ORGANIZES PUBLIC LECTURE ON STRENGTHENING YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN DEMOCRACY                                                                     15-02-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                   The youths have been advised to be productive, and engage stakeholders throughout the four year circle to promote good governance and accountability.

The executive director center for awareness on justice and accountability (CAJA), Comrade Sa’idu Dakata, made the call during a public lecture on strengthening youth participantion in the Democratic process, held at Aminu Kano center for democratic research and training, Mambayya house Kano.

According to him, youths are left behind in the area of post election engagements, hence the need to participate in democratic process that would yield positive results.

Comrade Dakata explained that, election and democracy are two sides of the coin, saying that, research indicates that, 70% of voters in the recently concluded elections are youths.

The executive director highlighted that, CAJA was committed to changing the narrative with support from MacArthur foundation, through a project tagged positive engagements of youths for timely democratic process in Nigeria.

The Kano state commissioner for rural and community development, Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu Kachako, commended the center for establishing democracy ambassadors, who are at the fore front of advocating for good governance.

He noted that, many political office holders that have not fulfill their campaign promises, are jittery of seeing the ambassadors on their door steps.

“The state government is at the fore front of making positive contributions”

In his presentation titled: Strengthening youth participantion in the Democratic process, the lead speaker, who doubles as Kaduna state commissioner of environment and natural resources, Alhaji Abubakar Bubah lere emphasized the need for strengthening mentor and mentee relationship, that would lead to positive outcomes.

He charged youths, to choose their mentors wisely and rededicate themselves to building their capabilities,to achieve the desired objectives.

The event was marked by paper presentations, interactive sessions, good will messages by the representative of Nigerian women trust fund, Mrs.Abosede ,VD care initiative Samira Isah Modibbo, and Chairman Northern civil society forum, Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya.
