By Sadiq Aminu                                                    Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has described journalist as Key to societal development.

The Governor stated this while presenting monetary assistance to families of some members of pen profession who passed away and those who were facing health challenges .

Represented by the commissioner for information Alhaji Baba Halilu Dantiye said the gesture was in Recognition of the efforts of the journalist in ensuring peaceful coexistence of the state.

He said his administration would not relent in continuing to partner with the working journalist with the aim of ensuring that the general public were duely informed on the activities of governance.

Those that benefitted from the gesture includes

1.Mr Ted Odogwu Correspondent of The Punch News paper who was victim of domestic gas explosion few months ago.(supported with the sum of one million Naira)

2.Yakubu Salisu ,reporter of Blazon newspaper who was a victim of a car accident and have spinal cord injury, Kano State government supported him with the sum 500 thousand naira.

3. Auwal Mukhtar was also a victim of a a car accident ,working with Abubakar Rimi Television,and was assisted with the sum of 500 thousand Naira.

4. Bilkisu Ado Zango was a staff of Radio Kano and was facing serious health challenges,as such government supported her with the sum 500 thousand naira.

5. Late malam Abdullahi yakubu was the correspondent of leadership newspapers, government in it’s magminity supported his family with the sum of 500 thousand naira.

Alhaji Baba Halilu Dantiye reaffirmed government determination of providing transparent leadership for the well being of the general public.

In his remarks, the chairman Nigeria Union of Journalist Comrade Abbas Ibrahim lauded the kind gesture of Governor Abba Kabir”s Administration for providing the support to the affected journalist.

He Urged the working journalist in the state to reciprocate the gesture by being committed and dedicated to duty.
