By Sadiq Aminu                                                     One hundred and nine suspected illegal miners have been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police command.

A statement by the command’s public relations officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Ramhan Nansel says the suspects were arrested following a raid on a suspected kidnappers’ den at Alogani mountain in Nasarawa Eggon local government area by the command’s anti-kidnapping unit in collaboration with vigilante.

It says the operation commenced from Mada station to Wakama, a mountain stretch that kidnappers use as a hideout to keep their victims until a ransom is paid.

According to the statement, the kidnappers deserted all the camps before the arrival of the operatives but one hundred and nine suspects were arrested at different locations on the mountain carrying out illegal mining of solid minerals such as Topaz, Tin, and Aquamarine.

It added that the suspects have been singled out and investigation is ongoing.
