By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The Niger state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT has disassociated itself from the incident involving the use of vulgar language in a school debate by a pupil in the state.

This is contained in a statement jointly signed and issued to Newsmen in Minna by the state Chairman of the Union Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed and the Principal Assistant Secretary General Comrade Labaran Garba.

In the statement which was reacting to a video that has gone viral on social media showing a primary school pupil using unguarded utterances during a debate competition the union described the act as embarrassing and unprofessional.

It however expressesd concern over the disturbing content of the video saying the pupil must have been coached to use such unguided and unwanted language in his presentation which was contrary to the laid down rules and regulations of their profession.

The statement condemned in strong terms the negative use of words by the child and express mutual concern for the poor coaching and counseling given to this child before and during the debate that has created hard feelings by their leaders and other educational stakeholders.

As a union the Niger state chapter of NUT assured parents religious and political leaders that such wreckless training will be severely guided and avoided to avoid a repeat of similar problem.

Members of the union have been directed to ensure proper supervision before and guidance of pupils before and during academic activities with the aim of achieving the desired educational goals and objectives.

It however appealed to Niger state government state Ministry of Basic and Secondary education, State Universal Basic Education Board as well as political leaders to kindly pardon key players that might have aides in one way or the other this ugly incident.
