By Sadiq Aminu                                                       kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has distributed food items as relief materials to 2,056 vulnerable households, the majority of whom are People With Disability (PWDs).

The gesture is part of the Centre’s annual Eta’am Basket Project in Nigeria implemented by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Speaking, the Team leader, the King Salman Humanitarian and Relief Centre (KSRelief), Abdulrahman bn Abdulaziz Al-Zaben said the programme was aimed at supporting the less privileged members of the societies around the world especially during the Ramadan period with a view to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Al-zaben noted that the aid is an annual gesture by the King Salman Humanitarian and Relief Centre which usually targets the most vulnerable households packed as food baskets consisting of food items that are always needed for daily use.

In her remark Director General NEMA, Zubaida Umar represented by the agency’s Director Special Duties, Fatima Kashim appreciates the Centre for the collaboration and for reaching out to those in need of the intervention.

“The Centre over the years proves to be a relief centre as it has reached out to many and its impact has been felt by many communities suffering from food crisis and insecurity.”

Responding Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State represented by his Deputy Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo who witnessed the flag off of the distribution exercise commended the centre for remembering the good people of Kano for the gesture in the month of Ramadan while reiterating the need for other philanthropic gestures from public, privileged individuals and corporate organisations to ease the suffering of the masses in this hard economic period.

Items distributed include 25kg of rice, 25kg of beans, 4kg masavita, 2kg of tomato paste and 0.5kg of seasoning powder.
