FRSC DIRECTS All COMMANDING OFFICERS TO STEP UP PATROL OPERATIONS AND ENSURE STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF CRITICAL OFFENSES                                                         29-03-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                          The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has directed all commanding officers to step up patrol operations and ensure strict enforcement of critical offenses like overloading, driving rickety vehicles, excessive smoke emission among others.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali-Biu gave the directive during the Flag off of Easter Mega Motor Park Rally Enlightenment campaign at Nyanya Central Park in Abuja.

Ali-Biu who was represented by the Deputy Corps Marshal DCM operations, Mr Shehu Zaki said that the Corps was working assiduously to ensure a significant shift in the attitude of motorists in the year 2024.

He said that the rally had become particularly imperative in view of the envisioned increase in vehicular and human movement across the country as this festive period gathered momentum.

The Corps Marshal said Nigerians must be aware that frequent cases of road crashes on the roads was not linked to any spirit killing people, rather, an increase in Human and Vehicular movement.

This, he said also included bad driving behaviour, and impatience which he added were the major causes.

The FRSC Boss noted that it was therefore, considered apt to affirm that drinking and driving, overloading of vehicles, use of worn out tyres, overloading, lane indiscipline, excessive speed, wrongful overtaking posed a threat to the life of the driver.

Speaking, Mr Yusuf Alabi, the representative, National Union of Road Transport Workers urged drivers to comply with the rules and regulations of road safety.

Mr. Alabi pledged that the union would continually support the good work of the FRSC in ensuring the message of safety was passed across to motorists in the country.

Other representatives from sister agencies like Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps among others promised to support the campaign on safety of lives and property before, during and after the Easter celebration.

The theme for the Mega Rally tagged “Overloading is a Time Bomb: Stop the Deaths, Do not Overload with Persons, Animals or Goods”.
