The former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) on Friday called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to promoting peace and harmony as well as celebrate the bonds that unite them as one family.

He made the call in Nwonyo village in the Ibi Local government area of Taraba State while speaking as the Chairman of the annual Nwonyo Fishing and Cultural Festival.

According to Danjuma, “The festival stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the State that we cherish and celebrate with great pride.

He noted that it showcases their cultural values and serves as a symbol of unity.

“Let us take a moment to reflect on the significance of the occasion.

“It is a symbol of the resilience and determination of our people in the face of daunting challenges.

“May this occasion be a reminder of who we are and the strength that lies in our unity.

On the state of the nation, Gen. TY Danjuma said that Nigeria is a war front of people killing their fellow human beings and stressed the urgent need to address the menace.

The elder statesman also disclosed that the nation is regrettably a war front and theatre of absurdities that leaves a sour taste in the minds of the people in every sane society.

He maintained that Nigerians and Nigeria as a country must put their houses in order and put a check on the glaring insecurity and other vices that are bedeviling the country.

“We must put our own house in order and have peace in our state and throughout the country if we want this to be truly an international festival,” he emphasized.

Additionally, Gen. TY Danjuma (Rtd) explained that there is no sane foreigner who will come to celebrate with Nigerians if they continue to disgrace themselves.

“As we are today in Nigeria, we are a disgrace to the whole world. We are a laughing stock to the rear of the whole world.

“We must make our roads safe and stop kidnapping people. We must learn to live together as a country and as a people” he reiterated.

In his remarks, Governor Agbu Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s Commitment to ensuring justice and peace to enable development to take its rightful course.

Dr. Kefas maintained that Taraba State, as a nature’s gift to the nation, must be showcased to the rest of the world so that the enormous potential of the state could be fully utilized.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri commended the Taraba State government for reviving the festival after Ten years of negligence.

Fintiri urged the people to use the occasion to unite and live harmoniously.

The festival is expected to end on Saturday 20th, April, 2024.
