GUNMEN ASSASSINATES A THIRD-CLASS CHIEF IN TARABA STATE 19-04-24
By Sadiq Aminu. On the morning of Friday, April 9th, 2024, the citizens of Sansani Chiefdom in Gassol LGA of Taraba State were met with devastating news that their Chief, Abdulmutallib Nuhu, had been assassinated by unidentified gunmen.
This event occurred only a few hours before the commencement of the Nwonyo International Fishing Festival, which had been dormant for 14 years and was revived by the current administration of Governor Agbu Kefas.
The festival is slated to take place in the Ibi Local Government Area of the State, along River Benue in the south of the State.
Sansani is located only a few kilometers from Ibi LGA, the designated site for the Nwonyo International Fishing Festival.
The gunmen arrived in Sansani town at approximately 9 pm on Thursday, proceeding directly to the palace where they murdered the monarch.
The Danmasanin Sansani, Salihu Sansani, the elder brother of the deceased monarch testified to our Africa 247 Correspondent that the assailants arrived on motorcycles, shot and killed his brother, and absconded with his two mobile phones.
“As they were leaving the village, they encountered a young man on a motorcycle and shot him, breaking his leg,” said Danmasani.
However, a senior police officer serving in the Sansani area informed our correspondent that his team was already pursuing the culprits responsible for the assassination of the paramount ruler.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer of Taraba State Command, ASP James Lashen, stated to journalists via telephone that, at the time of compiling the report, he was en route to the office and was not yet aware of the situation.
“I am not aware. I am on my way to the office now. If I receive any situation report, I will inform you,” Lashen explained.
