KWARA NSCDC NABS 19 YEAR OLD MAN FOR CHILD MOLESTATION                                                                                                                  19-04-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested Nineteen-year-old Jamiu Akande
for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl at Pakata Area in Ilorin.

According to a statement made available to Africa 247 by the Command spokesperson, Shola Ayoola, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday April 16, 2024 when the case was reported at the gender unit of the command by Alhaja Mariam Yusuf, Director at Ministry of Woman Affairs.

According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended after painstaking efforts by officers of the command.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect frequently visited the victim’s residence under the guise of seeing his friend, thereby gaining access to her.

The statement explains further that the culprit first lured the victim to an uncompleted building and sexually assaulted her in December 2023.

Subsequently, on April 16, 2024, he sent her to buy him bread and then led her to a dilapidated building where he subjected her to additional sexual abuse.

According to the statement, the suspect confessed to the crime and will be charged to court for onward prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commandant of Kwara NSCDC, Mr Umar Mohammed, has expressed great dismay at the alarming surge in cases of rape and defilement of minors, stressing that those who commit such awful acts would be arrested to face the wrath of the law.

The Commandant urged parents and guardians to remain watchful and ensure their children and wards are always in close proximity.
