NATIONAL DIALOGUE ON STATE POLICING KICK START AS PROMINENT NIGERIANS STORMED THE VENUE OF THE DIALOGUE                                                                        22-04-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                             The National Dialogue on State Policing kick Start as prominent Nigerians stormed the venue to kick start the Dialogue.
Present at the Venue are former President Dr. Good luck Jonathan, Former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the Speaker House of Representatives Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar among other dignitaries.

The National Dialogue on State Policing is in fulfilment of the commitment made by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas on the establishment of State Policing.

The proposal for state police is part of the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution by the 10th National Assembly.
The Speaker had on January 30, 2024, at the first plenary of the House in the year, announced plans to convoke a national conference on security.

On today’s dialogue, Special remarks are to be delivered by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Head of State; Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The House as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s security on February 20, this year passed for second reading, a bill seeking to create police structures in each of the states of the federation.

This Dialogue is expected to discuss extensively on How to achieve the establishment of State Police to improve on the nation’s security.
Meanwhile, the dialogue, is themed: ‘Pathways to Peace: Reimagining Policing in Nigeria.
While Speaker Abbas is to deliver the keynote address at the historic event, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, GCON, is billed to make remarks on state policing as the Special Guest of Honour.
