By Sadiq Aminu  .                                                              The academic Staff Union of Sokoto State University ASUU-SSU has appealed to Sokoto state government to look into the plight of the Union with a view to addressing critical issues affecting the University’s smooth operation.

In a statement signed by Saidu Isa Abubakar says the University has been operating without Governing Council since its dissolution by the present administration.

The statement noted that Reconstitution of the governing council is key to effective Service delivery stressing that the Governing Council plays a vital role in decision making , staff recruitment, administration, Convocations among others.

The statement is also appealing for the payment of accumulated earned academic allowance for five sessions after submission made since 2022.

The statement further reminds the Sokoto government of the need to clear the outstanding cooperative deductions and check-off dues stressing that the monies were deducted from members’ salaries by the state Ministry of Finance and the monies have not been remitted to the union’s accounts.

According to the statement, other concerns issues include Enactment of Salary Increment, Implementation of Wage Award and Completion of University staff quarters.

The statement pointed out that these demands would ensure the University’s efficient operation and the well-being of members.
