SOME INSTITUTIONS IN LAGOS RENDER SKELETAL SERVICES AMIDST THE ORGANIZED LABOUR INDUSTRIAL ACTION

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                   Most banks in Lagos are closed as the strike embarked upon by the Organised Labour to press home their demands for upward review of minimum wage and downward review of electricity tariff, enters day two.

Most Financial institutions on Inner Marina, Lagos Island were closed for business .

However, some Banks at the Lagos International Trade Fair Market were rendering skeletal services.

The strike is also affecting activities at some government institutions including the Lagos State Dental Services section of the General Hospital , on Broadstreet.

A patient, Steven Adeyemi who went to the hospital to access dental care told Africa 247 correspondent Sadiq Aminu that a woman he saw in the premises told him that he would not be attended to because they were on strike .

“I push the gate open by myself and walk into the hospital. As I was climbing the stair case, a woman told me to go back, that the workers are on strike . They even pasted a notice at the door of the office, which reads ” we are on strike. I feel very disappointed because I’m having serious tooth ache.”

The state’s government commercial buses which is being operated under a public private partnership arrangement did not comply with the strike.

The Organised Labour is demanding for #494,000 minimum wage but the federal government proposed #60,000.

Meanwhile , the president of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Festus Osifo has a while ago, announced the suspension of the ongoing nationwide strike for five days to give room for more negotiation with the federal government.
