SOKOTO GOVERNMENT SAYS ITS WORKING TOWARDS ENDING WATER SHORTAGE IN THE STATE                                                                                                                                          12-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                      The Sokoto state government in collaboration with the Federal Government says it has worked out modalities for the provision of portable drinking water in the state .

The state commissioner for Water Resources, Honourable Yusuf Muhammad Maccido stated this at a Ministerial briefing marking the state government one year in office.

He said the measures put in place would enable the state acquire a number of pumping machines, generators and other adjourning equipment from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.

Maccido disclosed that already steps were being taken to further revive and rehabilitate water projects executed across 6 locations with 40 million gallons daily production capacity which was initiated during Governor Aliyu Magatakardan Wamakko”s administration.

Also Speaking at the Ministerial briefing, the state Commissioner for Women and Children Welfare, Hajiya Hadiza Muhammad Shagari said under her ministry, the state government has empowered 40 Women on agricultural skills and were given Solar water pumping machines for dry farming with a cash grant of five hundred thousand naira each.

She said her ministry also re admitted 1500 out of school children and provided them with complete uniforms, sneakers, school bags books and writing materials.

The commissioner added that the state government has distributed food items and clothing during the holy month of Ramadan to vulnerable women and children in the including those in correctional centres.
