KANO STATE GOVERNMENT APPROVES N5.07 BILLION FERTILIZER PURCHASE FOR FARMERS                                                                                                                                          25-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    In a bid to boost food security and support smallholder farmers, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the purchase of fertilizer worth over N5 billion.

The approval was given during the 15th state executive council meeting held at the Government House.

According to a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the fertilizer will be distributed across the 44 Local Government areas of the state to support farmers in the 2024 rainy season.

The statement noted that the purchase is part of Governor Yusuf’s campaign promise to facilitate food sufficiency through agricultural transformation.

The fertilizer will be made available to farmers at a subsidized price, complementing the fertilizer already produced by the state-owned Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO).

The statement maintained that this move is expected to increase crop yields and reduce the cost of foodstuff in the state.
