RWANDA HIGH COMMISSION IN NIGERIA CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF LIBERATION 06-07-24
The Rwanda High Commission in Nigeria have celebrated 30th anniversary of liberation known as Kwibohora 30.
The celebration marks the end of genocide and the defeat of the government that executed it on July 4, 1994.
This year’s celebration with the theme, “Rwanda’s Journey Continues,” signifies that while the nation has made significant strides in reconciliation, justice, economic growth, and social development, the journey towards a prosperous and united nation is far from over.
According to the High Commissioner of Ruwanda to Nigeria, Amb. Christophe Bazivamo, Rwanda recovered its independence on July 1, 1962 but the recovery did not translate into national harmony and cohesion, as all post-independence governments chose to base their rule on ethnicity, divisiveness, and exclusion.
He added that their choice inspired from the colonial masters, crystalised in a genocide ideology that built up to the planning and the perpetration of the Genocide Against the Tutsi in 1994.
“We honor the resilience of the Rwandan people and the sacrifices made for freedom, the bravery of the Rwandan Patriotic Army, who rescued countless lives, symbolizes our indomitable spirit.
“We express our deepest gratitude to those who liberated our nation and the heroes who gave their lives for a free Rwanda.
True liberation encompasses healing, reconciliation, and rebuilding.
“We have rebuilt a nation that values every citizen, with trust and cooperation as cornerstones. Our pact of trust, “igihango,” has been fundamental in fostering unity and driving our progress.
“Our journey has not been easy, but we have achieved remarkable progress, our security forces, once symbols of oppression, are now guardians of peace, earning the trust and respect of the Rwandan people through their dedicated service.
“We have made significant strides in reducing poverty, improving healthcare and education, and empowering women. Our economy is growing at an average annual rate of 7%, and Rwanda is now a leading investment destination in Africa.

Bazivamo also noted that collaborations with nations around the world, including Nigeria, have been instrumental in Rwanda’s journey to growth.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, congratulated the people of Rwanda for their liberation and growth over the past 30 years.
Tuggar who was represented by Ambassador Safiu Olaniyan reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to partner with Rwanda and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
