KANO STATE GOVERNMENT BOOSTS AGRICULTURE WITH OVER N6 BILLION FERTILIZER PURCHASE                                                                                                              23-07-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                   The Kano State Government has purchased fertilizers worth N6.2 billion to distribute to farmers, aiming to boost agriculture production in the state.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud disclosed during an interview with Journalist in Kano.

He said 52 trucks of fertilizers (N1.2 billion) have been distributed free to farmers in the 44 local government areas.

Dr Danjuma Mahmoud noted that 180 trucks of fertilizers (N5 billion) will be sold to farmers at a 50% discounted rate.

He said the fertilizers were purchased from the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO).

The Commissioner Maintained that government has also deployed 440 trained extension workers to assist farmers with new improved seeds and farming inputs.

“Furthermore, 1,299 hectares of land have been allocated for irrigation farming, and 20 dams, including the Kafinchiri dam, are being desilted.

“To facilitate the evacuation of farm produce, the government is constructing rural roads in different parts of the state.”

Dr Danjuma Mahmoud reassured the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Administration in ensuring the provision of modern farm input to farmers geared towards Achieving a Bumper Harvest in the state.
