YOBE STATE GOVERNMENT DISTRIBUTES MULTI-BILLION NAIRA AGRICULTURAL EMPOWERMENT EQUIPMENT TO FARMERS                                                                         08-08-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                   Yobe State government has begun the free distribution of the Multi-Billion Naira agricultural equipment, and implements recently launched in Damaturu to beneficiaries in Zone A senatorial district.

The pilot program commenced with the distribution of equipment, seeds and fertilizers to farmers from Yunusari, Geidam, Bursari, Tarmuwa, and Gulani local government areas totaling to 1,590 farmers.

About 1,060 male farmers in the five local government areas received 159 Hand Ploughs, 159 Powered Hand Tillers, 212 Multi-Purpose Threshers, 530 Solar Powered Pumps, 3,180 bags of Fertilizers, 530 Hand Push Planters, 1,060 Knapsack Sprayers, 10,600kg Assorted seeds, 10,600 liters of Agro-chemicals, among others, while 530 female beneficiaries received three (3) small ruminants each.

During the recent ceremonial launch of the Multi-Billion Equipments procured by Yobe state government in Damaturu, the State Governor Mai Mala Buni explained that a total of 5,300 farmers across the 178 wards in the 17 Local Government Areas are to benefit from the empowerment program to improve agricultural productivity, ensure food sufficiency/security, and stimulate economic growth.

The governor warned against abuse of the tractors, vehicles, and motorcycles for extension services and selling of the equipment, directing security agencies to impound and arrest persons moving the equipment out of the state.

Beneficiaries of the empowerment from Yunusari, Geidam and Bursari, said the support would enable them expand their farmlands and engage in irrigation farming for more food production

They also commended Governor Buni for the initiative and support to farmers which according to them would enable them cultivate their farms and improve the economy.
