By Sadiq Aminu                                                                About twenty five persons were drowned to death following a local commercial boat carrying 40 passengers capsized at Dundaye Village of Wamakko Local government Area of Sokoto state.

An eyewitness from the affected area, Malam Ayuba Maya told Africa 247 that the victims were mostly women and children trying to cross the river and go to their farms when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Ayuba explained that fifteen people were rescued by local divers while the remaining victims are still missing, stressing that the divers are still searching for the victims as at the time of filing this report.

When contacted, the Special Adviser to Sokoto state governor on State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Nasir Garba Kalambaina, said he was not aware but quickly gathered his rescue operation team and informed the zonal Director of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, who also sent their officials to the scene of the incident for rescue operation.

Africa 247 gathered that the incident which is happening almost every year in Sokoto was as a result of the river overflows occasioned by torrential down pour.
