REVEREND MATTEW KUKAH CALLS FOR THE REVERSAL OF FUEL PRICE HIKE 09-09-24
By Sadiq Aminu The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Reverend Mathew Hassan-Kukah, has called for the reversal of the recent increase in the price of petrol in the country.
Speaking at the formal unveiling of The Progressives Institute (TPI) in Abuja, Bishop Kukah observed that if not reversed, it would cause severe hardship on the lives of Nigerians.
He also called for urgent measures to to find a way of reducing poverty in the country, saying Nigerians are hungry.
“As I commend the APC for this feat and I am happy that the political leaders are here and I want to say that Nigerians are hungry. You must fund a way of reducing the prices of fuel to reduce the suffering in the country,” he appealed
Kukah who commended the leadership of the APC for establishing the institute, observed that it will help the political leaders to change the rules of engagement.
He equally charged Nigerian political leaders to graduate from patronising marabouts to embracing scientific approach to administering the country.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC Dr Abdullahi Umar-Ganduje, stated that the Institute will serve as the official Policy Think Tank of the Party, that would undertake research and advise the Party on the performance of policies and programs of all APC governments and proffer advice.
The Chairman Progressive Governors Forum Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State said the institute would serve as the political umpire and promote the progressive ideology of the APC for democracy.
The Director General of the institute Dr Lanre Adebayo, explained that the institute would assist greatly in strengthening the roles of the voters in determining the type and quality of leadership that emerged at every election.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari, who represented Vice President Kashim Shettima, stressed the need for the institute to constitute a progressive ideology for the APC and the nation’s democracy.
Lawmakers, state governors as well as civil society organizations attended the event.
The Progressive Institute (TPI) was established by the current leadership of the All Progressives Congress APC, to enhance its leadership recruitment process through quality training, strengthen intra-party democracy and governance as well as the APC’s policy role, especially through independent research.
