ABOUT 150 PEOPLE FEARED DEAD IN A BOAT MISHAP AT GBAJIBO IN KAIAMA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KWARA STATE                                                                                02-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               No fewer than 150 people are feared dead following a boat mishap at Gbajibo in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The boat was reportedly carrying about 200 passengers who were returning from a Maulid Nabbiy celebration when the incident occurred.

Local authorities say only 31 people have been rescued alive as of this time.

Meanwhile, Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has mourned victims of the tragic boat mishap involving at least 200 people.

Governor AbdulRazaq, who expressed deep concern at this devastating incident and sends his heartfelt commiserations to the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Omar Mu’azu Shehu and the people of Gwajibo on the development.

The Governor, in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, directed the State Emergency Management Agency to join the humanitarian efforts for the victims, the survivors, and their families.

The statement indicates that the State Government delegation led by Speaker of the House of Assembly, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu is also visiting Gwajibo today to commiserate with the families of the victims.
