DEFENCE MINISTER VISITS TROOPS IN BIRNIN GWARI, ASSURES THEM OF COMMITMENT TO END INSECURITY IN THE AREA                                                                                                                                  19-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                              The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has paid an operational visit to the headquarters, sub-sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State.

In a statement by the acting deputy director, Army public relations One Division Nigerian Army, Lt Colonel Musa Yahaya says the Minister was led on the visit by the General Officer Commanding One Division, Major General Mayirenso Lander David Saraso in company of his staff officers.

During the visit, the Minister received briefings on the operational activities of One Division/Sector 1 OPFY, as well as activities of the sub-sector 3 OPFY.

Earlier, the GOC briefed the Minister on Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which he said is an integration of the erstwhile Operation HADARIN DAJI in Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto as well as Zamfara States, while Operation WHIRL PUNCH operates in Kaduna and Niger States for better efficiency.

He pointed out that the new operation has its headquarters in Zamfara State, while the headquarters of sector 1 is in Kaduna State.

General Saraso re-assured the Minister that the new arrangement will improve troops effectiveness and mount more pressure on the criminal elements.

In his remarks, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the operational activities and applauded the troops for their resilience and charged them to redouble their efforts to neutralise all the terrorists, so as to completely free up the area for economic activities to thrive.

Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar also visited the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Zubairu Jibril Maigwari II, where he commended him for for all the support he has been giving to the troops.

He re-assured the Emir of President Tinubu’s commitment to bringing lasting end to the security situation in Birnin Gwari and environs.

On his part, the Emir thanked the Minister for the visit and commended the GOC and his troops for the improved security situation in his domain.

According to the statement, the Minister was also at the Air Training Command of the Nigerian Airforce and the Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Regiment at the Airforce base, where he commended the troops urged them to step up efforts in the fight against insecurity.
