JOB CREATION: GOVERNOR YUSUF REOPENS HORTICULTURE, LIVESTOCK TRAINING INSTITUTES IN KANO 10-11-24
By Sadiq Aminu Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reopened Kano’s Horticulture and Livestock institutes, presenting 340 admission letters to students in a move to combat youth unemployment and equip young people with practical skills.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa .
Speaking at the Bagauda premises in Bebeji Local Government Area, the governor emphasized the importance of these institutions in reducing redundancy among the state’s youth by providing them with training that will make them valuable to society.
The Horticulture Institute will focus on the beautification and health of the environment, while offering students a pathway to earn a livelihood in the sector.
Governor Yusuf highlighted that horticulture skills go beyond financial gain, as graduates will contribute to the natural beauty and environmental health of their communities.
Meanwhile, the Livestock Institute will train 140 students in practical skills such as ram fattening, animal husbandry, and meat quality improvement, enhancing their capacity to contribute to Kano’s agricultural economy. According to the governor,
“This training will not only benefit them individually but will also contribute significantly to the agricultural economy of Kano State.”
Governor Yusuf urged the students to seize the opportunity, stressing that these skills can transform their lives and those of their families.
He cited the success of a previous graduate, now recognized by the federal government for achievements in dairy production, as an example of how such training can lead to lasting economic empowerment.
The governor expressed disappointment over the previous administration’s closure of the institutes, a decision he viewed as a setback to youth development.
He assured that his administration is committed to expanding opportunities for young people in the state, laying the foundation for a better society.
In line with this, the government has provided essential infrastructure to support the students’ learning, including accommodation, a reliable water system, and solar energy to ensure a conducive environment.
The Emir of Rano, Autan Bawo, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar, commended Governor Yusuf’s efforts, stating that the revival of these institutions is seen as part of his plan to position Kano as a model state.
Directors of the institutes, Dr. Jazuli Muhammad Bichi for Horticulture and Dr. Aliyu Ahmad Nuhu for Livestock, pledged to work towards achieving the centers’ objectives.
Dr. Alasan Salisu, Chairman of Bebeji Local Government Council, also expressed his support, emphasizing that these revived institutions will drive economic growth among the youth.
One of the students, Nazifi Ahmad Gera, expressed gratitude on behalf of his peers, highlighting that the institute’s reopening would positively impact their lives and future.
