By Sadiq Aminu                                                                     Bauchi State Government is to expend about three billion naira for the construction of four mega schools in the three senatorial districts to address shortage of classes in the state.

The Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB Alhaji Adamu Muhammad gave the indication during an interview with Africa247 correspondent in Bauchi.

Alhaji Adamu Muhammad who is also the District Head of Duguri said densely populated areas have been identified for the construction of the mega schools in line with the guide lines of the donour partners to attract more pupils.

He explained that two of the mega schools will be constructed at Ibrahim Bako housing estate and Filin Kwallon Kobi in the state capital as well as Misau and Azare towns considering their populations.

“….all the 2022/2023 UBEC/SUBEB interventions have been accessed and executed what we are waiting now is the 2024 intervention…. The SUBEB Chairman said.

The SUBEB Chairman noted that traditional and religious leaders as well as other critical stakeholders have been contacted about the location of the cites of the construction of the mega schools.

“…..we also engaged traditional and religious leaders into aggressive campaign to address problem of the out of school children where have recorded significant reduction from 1.7 million children to six hundred thousand….” Adamu Muhammad explained.

Alhaji Adamu Muhammad has also called on people of the State to support government’s drive to reduce the number of out of school children in the state to the nearest level.

“… the media should also play their role as stakeholders to enlighten people on the importance of safeguarding infrastructures provided in public schools….” He noted.

He expressed concern that in the recent years the state occupied second position on the number of out of school children but with the measures taken over one point one million of such children have been taken back to classes.

While calling on people of the State to shun vandalism of materials provided to enhance teaching and learning in public schools the SUBEB Chairman said government has invested alot of money to fix the structures.

“… I want to debunk claims from certain quarters that construction and renovations of schools are only done in urban areas…. schools renovations and constructions are being carried out across all nooks and crannies…. The SUBEB Chairman said.
