By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The Federal Executive Council, FEC, adopted the decision to honour the former Head of State for his contributions to nation-building.

Briefing State House correspondents on the development, the Minister of information and National Orientation, Alhaji Muhammad Idris, said, however, that the change of name of the University will however be subject to the confirmation of the National Assembly.

“The University of Abuja will now be known as Yakubu Gowon University. of course, the processing will have to go to the National Assembly, for all legislation in that direction”, he explained

FEC also announced the resumption of last year’s free train service, which will start from the 20th of this month till the 5th of January, next year l.

“This is consistent with the President’s desire to caushion the effect of transportation, officially the most vulnerable Nigerians. recall that this also happened in the last Christmas period and the Sellah period. And Mr President has also approved that this year, from the 20th of December to the fifth of January, there will be free transport service nationwide”, the Minister added.

He said FEC would proceed on recess from the 18th of this month till the 6th of January, next year.
