POLICE IN ANAMBRA STATE ARRESTS ONE CHUKWUMA OBI, IN CONNECTION WITH AN ALLEGED CASE OF ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING AND EXTORTION                                                                                                                            25-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The Police Command in Anambra state has arrested one Chukwuma Obi, in connection with an alleged case of attempted kidnapping and extortion.

The arrested suspect, aged thirty two, hails from Umuagu Village, Igboukwu in Aguata local government area of the state.

He was arrested by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugu-Ukwu.

The Police Public Relations officer of the command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, in a release said, the suspect was accused of demanding a ransom of one million, two hundred thousand naira, through threats of abduction.

He explained that the victim reported receiving a menacing message from an individual claiming to be a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), threatening abduction unless the demanded ransom was paid into a specified account.

The Police Image Maker said,during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and was currently assisting the Police in identifying and apprehending other members of the gang involved in the criminal activities.

Mr Ikenga said,the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Nnaghe Itam reiterated the Command’s commitment to pursuing all cases to a conclusive end to ensure that suspects were apprehended and justice served.
