NIGERIA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENTS TO REGIONAL PEACE AMIDST NIGER CONCERNS                                                                     31-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The Federal government has reiterated its commitment to peace, stability, and regional harmony in West Africa, following recent remarks from the leader of Niger’s National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, Abdourahman Tchiani.

In a statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, emphasized that dialogue remains the cornerstone of sustainable solutions, assuring that Nigeria will not take actions undermining Niger’s sovereignty and security.

Ambassador Tuggar highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between Nigeria and Niger, noting their shared destinies rooted in trade and economic interdependence.

He warned against unfounded allegations, which risk creating tensions and threatening the collective progress of the region.

The Minister outlined Nigeria’s approach to resolving concerns, including respecting Niger’s sovereignty, encouraging open dialogue, and proposing measures to address humanitarian challenges in border communities.

He also called on regional and international partners to support efforts aimed at fostering reconciliation and stability.

Nigeria reaffirmed its dedication to diplomacy, mutual respect, and peace, expressing optimism for constructive engagement that will ensure a more prosperous and stable future for the region.
