MINISTER OF WORKS, GIVES CONTRACTORS HANDLING PROJECTS IN THE SOUTH-SOUTH GEOPOLITICAL ZONE TO ENSURE SPEEDY COMPLETION OR RISK REVOCATION                                                                                        09-01-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi has given contractors handling projects in the South-South geopolitical zone to ensure speedy completion of the jobs from now till end of this month or risk revocation.

Senator Umahi announced this in a statement signed by the Director Press in the Ministry of Works, Mr Mohammed Ahmed after an inspection visit to the ongoing works on the dualization of East-West Road, Section covering Ahoada-Kaiama and the construction of multiple Box Culverts at Flood Affected Areas on East-West Road, Section in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

According to the statement, though Senator Umahi was highly impressed with the quality of work done on section covering Ahoada-Kaiama but he directed them to speed up the process through the addition of more resources to the construction work.

The statement expressed disappoinment with the slow pace of work, stating that the contract was scheduled for completion by November 2024 but had to be extended to December but it’s still uncompleted.

The statement stressed that the provision of roads and bridges remains a top priority of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and advised contractors to up their game.

It reminded the contractors that the April, 2025 delivery date remains sacrosanct and directed that due to the nature of the soil in the areas affected by floods where box culverts are being constructed, there is need to continuously reinforced it with concrete pavement.

The Project Manager of of one of the construction companies, Mr. Isaa Michel, while appreciating the Minister for the site inspection and the savory as well as unsavoury comments, promised to hasten the pace of work, to meet the deadline.
