ONDO BEGINS PUBLIC HEARING ON DRAFT OF CHIEFTANCY DECLARATION                                                                                                15-01-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 Ondo State Governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa said his administration will no longer allow stools of traditional rulers to be unnecessarily vacant.

Governor Aiyedatiwa stated this at the opening ceremony of a public hearing on draft of Chieftaincy Declaration held in Akure the state capital.

Represented by the Commissioner for  Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Amidu Takuro the governor described as unacceptable a situation whereby stools of monarchs were vacant for over 10 years due to litigation or other factors.

He said the draft of Chieftaincy Declaration was aimed at making Ondo State a model for other states to copy in Nigeria and to put an end to unnecessary delay in throne accesion in all towns and communities in the state.

Governor Aiyedatiwa who lamented the rate of litigations surrounding Chieftaincy tussles across the state said there was need for the state government to wade in by coming up with documents that would address succeesion plans for every traditional ruler.

Some traditional rulers at the event commended the state government for coming up with the public hearing, expressing the hope that the step would put an end to Chieftaincy title crises.
