MISHAPS: MINISTER OF MARINE AND BLUE ECONOMY CONSTITUTES A 7 MAN COMMITTEE TO ADDRESSES ISSUES OF BOATS MISHAPS IN THE COUNTRY                                                                                                          17-01-25

               By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    As part of efforts to check the incessant boats mishaps across the nation’s waterways, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Chief Gboyega Oyetola has constituted a seven man Committee to address all issues of neglect which always lead to boats mishaps in the country.

In a Statement issued by the Director of Public Relations in the Ministry, Mrs Anastasia Ogbonna says the Committee is expected to review the Operations of all commercial boats operators on the coastal and inland waterways, with a view to addressing the incessant boats accidents across the country’s waterways.

It notes that, it has become a matter of great concern hence the need for proper solutions so as to reduce such occurrences, to the barest.
The terms of Reference to guide the Committee members include the review of existing Commercial boats transport Operations, assessing boats mishaps and their causative factors as well as the current operational safety of the boats used.

The need to develop a comprehensive plan to address the findings and to develop a standard design and specifications for basic categories of Commercial boats for operations as we as the need for considering all other related measures for safety and viable waterways transportation across the country.
The Committee has three weeks to complete the assignment and submit a comprehensive Report, to the Ministry.
