FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTRY DISOWNS ONLINE RECRUITMENT PUBLICATIONS                                                           01-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the recruitment of Foreign Service Officers is conducted by the Federal Civil Service Commission, not the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry also called on security agencies to arrest fraudsters involved in fake recruitment publications in the social media.
“In the media and social media online platform, where there was some adverts calling for recruitment, and it was purportedly signed by the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs. We want to put on record that the Ministry don’t recruit officers directly, not at all. Recruitment of foreign service officers is done by the Federal Civil Service Commission, and not by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”.

“So we put out a disclaimer, which I know that most of the media houses publicized. But unfortunate for us, from the past 24 hours, we’ve come to realize that the group of fraudsters have gone a step ahead, and this time around, they are sending out offers of employment to different persons, sending emails to them. And your guess would be as good as mine”.

“The person that signed the recruitment offer is the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I know some of our persons who fall victim because of the current situation in the country, whereby a lot of our graduates are looking for placements in different MDs. So that is why we felt it would be good for us to put it on record that the Ministry is not recruiting. And any online media, any information online that you have seen, that is either signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs or the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is fake”.

During a news conference in Abuja, the Spokesperson of the Ministry, however pointed out that the Minister can only appoint his personal aids.
“So the Minister cannot sign any recruitment of officers. The only officers the Minister will employ, maybe in his own capacity, are his personal staff that is, his aids, as the case may be. You will recall that even when he appointed our former ambassador to India as his aid, I think around March or so, he issued a statement that was rightly publicized in the media”.
