GOVERNOR PRAISES MILITARY GALLANTRY IN RAIN, URGES FG TO SECURE KALA BALGE HQ 22-05-25
By Sadiq Aminu. Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has commended the Nigerian military for their gallantry in repelling an attack on Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area. He also called on the Federal Government to prioritize securing the local government headquarters, which is now the only standing community in Kala Balge.
Governor Zulum made the appeal while spending the night in Rann town, headquarters of Kala Balge, demonstrating his commitment to strengthening community resilience and boosting the morale of security personnel.
Rann, one hundred and seventy three (173)kilometers from Maiduguri located in Borno Central Senatorial Zone, faces numerous challenges, including insecurity, perennial flooding that isolates the community, and elephant invasions.
Governor Zulum’s visit follows a recent landmine explosion on the highway leading to Rann, which claimed approximately twenty-three lives, and an attack on the military formation in the community.
During his stay, Governor Zulum met separately with military personnel and volunteers, including Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members, hunters, and vigilantes. He commended them for their efforts and mourned the loss of soldiers killed in the attacks, acknowledging the heavy casualties inflicted on the insurgents.
Professor Zulum announced the donation of ten security vehicles to the military, CJTF, hunters, and vigilantes, and pledged to increase the number of volunteers in Rann to support the military’s efforts. He also emphasized the need to strengthen resilience and enhance synergy among security forces.
The Governor also supervised the distribution of food items to approximately ten thousand households who lost their farm produce to flooding and elephant invasions. Each male and female head of household received two 25kg bags of sorghum, with a promise of financial support and fabrics for female residents to be provided at a later date.
He also used the opportunity to commiserate with the residents over the landmine explosion on the Rann highway and the attack on the Army formation, stressing the need for community resilience.
The Governor assured residents that the government will soon initiate modern irrigation farming in the area to enhance food sufficiency.
