BAUCHI POLICE ARRESTS MAN OVER ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT                                                                                  02-06-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                        Police in Bauchi have arrested 37-year-old Wisdom Benoie for alleged sexually assault to his 15-year-old stepdaughter following community intervention.

A statement by the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil says the suspect was rescued from a mob by operatives of the Operation Restore Peace led by CSP Kim Abert after neighbours reported the ongoing abuse in Yelwan Tsakani.

It says investigations reveal that the suspect married the survivor’s mother and allegedly committed the acts at night while the mother slept, with the teenager finally confiding in neighbours.

According to the statement, during interrogation, Benoie confessed to multiple assaults, leading to his arrest in the early hours of May 31, 2025 by the officers.

The statement notes that the survivor has been moved to a medical facility for examination and care as authorities continue their investigation into the disturbing case.

Bauchi Police Commissioner, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for thorough investigation before prosecution.

The Command reiterated its zero-tolerance for gender-based violence while urging survivors and relatives to report abuses promptly through official channels.
