By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Apapa Command of the Nigerian Customs Service has seized 27 containers of contraband goods, including unregistered pharmaceuticals, codeine syrup, wild animal skins, stolen vehicles, and second-hand clothes, between January and June 2025.

Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, disclosed this during a press briefing in Lagos, noting that the seized items have a duty-paid value of ₦9.2 billion.

He emphasized that the seizures are part of efforts to safeguard public health, stop illegal trade, and protect local industries. He warned smugglers to desist, saying officers are highly vigilant and ready to arrest offenders.

On revenue generation, the Command recorded ₦1.378 billion, with a call for officers to intensify efforts to meet annual targets.

NDLEA Commander, Dr. Bubba Wakawa, added that smugglers often use fake companies and addresses, urging continuous surveillance.
