ARCN BACKS NIMET’S MAP ROOM PROJECT TO STRENGTHEN CLIMATE RESILIENCE……………

The Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) has pledged full support for the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s (NiMet) new Map Room Project, a groundbreaking digital platform designed to improve climate services nationwide.

The Executive Secretary of ARCN, Dr. Abubakar Adamu Dabban, joined stakeholders at the official launch, describing the initiative as a major step toward providing real-time and reliable climate data for agriculture, public health, and national development.

The Map Room offers interactive maps and figures that track past, present, and forecasted climate conditions across Nigeria. With its data-driven approach, it will help farmers, policymakers, and communities prepare for climate risks, improve productivity, and build resilience.

Dr. Dabban highlighted that ARCN’s recently launched Renewed Hope Agricultural Programme aligns with NiMet’s innovation. He assured that the council will adopt the ENACT tool under the Map Room to promote evidence-based decision-making, enhance early warning systems, and drive climate-smart agricultural practices.

He further revealed that ARCN staff who participated in NiMet’s week-long Map Room training will roll out hybrid step-down sessions to share knowledge across the council. This, he said, will expand capacity and ensure that more stakeholders benefit from the tool.

Dr. Dabban urged agricultural institutions, researchers, and policymakers to fully explore the Map Room for sustainable solutions that can reduce Nigeria’s vulnerability to climate change.
