By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Delta State, has applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving the immediate release of ₦10 billion to offset outstanding pension arrears in the state.

In a statement issued in Asaba, the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, described the move as a bold demonstration of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of workers and retirees. He noted that the governor has consistently shown concern for the workforce, citing the ₦36.4 billion already paid in pensions since Oborevwori assumed office two years ago.

Ofobruku added that the gesture has restored confidence among workers and retirees, calling on all stakeholders to appreciate and support the governor’s labour-friendly policies. He further urged the Bureau for State Pensions and pension administrators to ensure that the approved funds are disbursed swiftly and transparently to the beneficiaries.

The NLC chairman reaffirmed the union’s readiness to continue partnering with the state government in promoting the welfare of workers and retirees, stressing that such collaboration is key to sustaining industrial harmony.
