NEC BACKS RENEWED HOPE PLAN TO DRIVE $1 TRILLION ECONOMY BY 2030

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Nigeria’s National Economic Council has approved the Renewed Hope Development Plan (2026–2030), a new medium-term strategy aimed at fast-tracking reforms and positioning the nation for a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Vice President Kashim Shettima said the plan builds on lessons from the current National Development Plan and aligns with Agenda 2050. He stressed that it will be participatory, involving states, private sector, civil society, youth, and traditional institutions.

Shettima also highlighted efforts to support farmers, with NASENI scaling up local production of solar-powered irrigation pumps to cut energy costs and boost food security.

The Council urged timely release of funds for the upcoming national immunization campaign, noting progress in reducing polio cases.
