APC WOMEN LEADER PUSHES FOR TWINNING FORMULA TO BOOST GENDER EQUITY

The Deputy National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajia Zainab Ibrahim, has called for the adoption of the twinning formula to enhance women’s participation in politics.
Speaking at the APC Secretariat in Abuja, she said the policy, which reserves deputy positions for women would have produced 24 female deputy governors in APC states if implemented.
She noted that the formula, already used in countries like Rwanda and Namibia, is an easier path to gender equity than waiting for legislative backing on special seats.
Hajia Zainab added that women’s support in future elections may depend on parties that adopt the initiative.
