KANO JOINS NEMA, WORLD BANK PILOT PROJECT ON DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in partnership with the World Bank, has launched a pilot programme in Kano to strengthen disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness.

NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, said the initiative focuses on improving early warning systems, community resilience, and government collaboration to reduce flooding and other hazards.

World Bank’s Francis Nkoka noted that better preparedness would cut disaster costs and boost resilience, while Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed Kano’s commitment to supporting policies that protect lives and livelihoods.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders from NEMA, SEMA, and partner agencies.
