SENATE DEMANDS 2024 BUDGET PERFORMANCE REPORT BEFORE 2026 MTEF PRESENTATION

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Senate Committee on Finance has directed the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and other key economic managers to submit a detailed performance report on the 2024 budget and projections for the 2025 capital implementation within two weeks.

Committee Chairman, Senator Mohammed Musa (Niger East), issued the directive after a closed-door meeting with Edun, Accountant-General Samsudeen Ogunjimi, and Budget Office DG Tanimu Yakubu.

Musa said the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper for 2026–2029 would only be considered after the committee receives the reports on October 23.

He noted that the Minister of Finance has agreed to provide the required documents, emphasizing that evidence of 2024 performance and 2025 expectations must guide discussions on future fiscal plans.

Earlier, Edun reported that the 2024 capital budget is recording high performance, while Yakubu acknowledged some turbulence in implementing both the 2024 and 2025 budgets due to unmet assumptions.
