By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Gwarzo LGA stole the spotlight at KANFEST 2025, earning praise for its vibrant showcase of Hausa culture and traditional crafts.

The three-day festival, held at the Kano Trade Fair Complex, brought together all 44 LGAs to celebrate Kano’s artistic heritage. Gwarzo impressed visitors with its authentic displays of weaving (saka buli kare), wood carving, cassava and groundnut processing, and the meat trade (fawa), reflecting the strength of local creativity and craftsmanship.

Deputy Governor Comrade Abdulsalam Abubakar Gwarzo commended participants for preserving Hausa traditions. Representing the Executive Chairman, Dr. Mani Tsoho Gwarzo, the DPM Hajiya Zulaihat Sabo Usman described KANFEST as a vital platform for promoting artisans and sustaining indigenous industries.

Weaver Malam Sani Mai Saka Buli Kare noted that his family’s craft has been passed down for generations, while Malam Bala Mai Rogo highlighted how cassava and groundnut processing sustain rural livelihoods. Sulaiman Adamu Usman Gwarzo, a butcher, emphasized the continued importance of the meat trade in local employment and food supply.

Gwarzo’s performance at KANFEST reaffirmed its pride in Hausa identity and commitment to preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
