REPS ORDER EDUCATION MINISTRY TO REVERSE SUBJECT REMOVAL

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The House of Representatives has directed the Federal Ministry of Education to immediately restore subjects recently removed from the WAEC registration portal.

The decision followed a motion by Bayelsa lawmaker Oboku Oforji, who warned that the policy could disrupt the plans of students preparing for the 2026 WASSCE. He stressed that subjects like Computer Studies, Data Processing and Civic Education are essential for digital skills and national awareness.

The House insisted that SS3 students must be allowed to write the subjects they have studied since SS1 and reminded the government of its constitutional duty to ensure equal educational opportunities.

An ad-hoc committee has been set up to monitor compliance.
