NIGERIA CUSTOMS SEIZES GOODS WORTH ₦769.5M IN KANO/JIGAWA

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kano/Jigawa Command recorded 20 major seizures of diverted containers between Q2 and Q4 of 2025, valued at ₦769.5 million. Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi said the interceptions highlight the vigilance of customs officers and the effectiveness of the Service’s enforcement strategy.

Seized items included ceramics, diesel engine oil, polyester materials, used clothing, printed fabrics, tea bags, bottled water, medical consumables, and lace fabrics.

Some containers were forfeited following court rulings, while others remain under detention pending legal proceedings. A suspect linked to container diversion was prosecuted and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, with an option of a fine.

The NCS affirmed its commitment to fighting smuggling, enforcing trade regulations, and protecting Nigeria’s economic interests.
