ECOWAS DEPLOYS 133 OBSERVERS AHEAD OF GUINEA PRESIDENTIAL POLL

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has deployed 133 election observers to Guinea as the country prepares for its presidential election scheduled for December 28, 2025.

Head of the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission, Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, led a briefing session for the observers in Conakry, stressing the need for professionalism, neutrality and strict adherence to ECOWAS democratic principles throughout the exercise. He reaffirmed the regional body’s commitment to supporting peaceful, transparent and credible elections in Guinea.

As part of the preparations, the ECOWAS mission also engaged with Guinea’s electoral authorities to assess readiness for the polls. The electoral body assured the delegation that arrangements were on course and that the country would be fully prepared on election day.

The deployment underscores ECOWAS’ continued role in promoting democracy, good governance and political stability across West Africa through credible election observation.
