N5.78BN FRAUD TRIAL: COURT ADJOURNS CASE AGAINST EX-KWARA GOVERNOR TO FEB 16

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

A Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has adjourned the N5.78 billion alleged fraud trial of former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and his ex-Commissioner for Finance, Ademola Banu, to February 16, 2026. The case, being prosecuted by the EFCC, centres on alleged misappropriation of public funds.

At the resumed hearing, a prosecution witness told the court that bank statements obtained from commercial banks were part of evidence gathered during investigations. The EFCC alleges that UBEC matching grant funds meant for basic education infrastructure were diverted to pay salaries, contrary to their approved use.

The trial was adjourned after objections from the defence, with the court fixing February 16 for continuation.
