FCTA MAKES MAJOR PROGRESS ON WORKERS’ DEMANDS – OLAYINKA

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to workers’ welfare, announcing that 10 out of the 14 demands presented by striking workers have been addressed, with efforts ongoing to resolve the remaining issues.
In a statement, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said engagements with union leaders revealed that most concerns had been settled and others were already receiving attention. He maintained that the unresolved matters do not justify the continuation of the strike and should be handled through dialogue.
Olayinka explained that some unions and workers have openly distanced themselves from the strike and should be granted unhindered access to their offices. He added that groups such as the Association of Resident Doctors in the FCT have expressed appreciation to Minister Nyesom Wike for his leadership, particularly in the payment of hazard allowance arrears and wage awards.
He noted that issues relating to tenure, promotions, training, and staff deductions are being managed through established public service procedures, with assurances that all actions will align strictly with the Public Service Rules. A committee set up by the Head of Service is already working with workers’ representatives to address outstanding concerns comprehensively.
According to the FCTA, the Minister has shown clear commitment to resolving workers’ demands and will continue to prioritize their welfare. The administration therefore views the strike as unnecessary, given the level of progress already achieved.
The statement also urged security agencies to ensure that workers who have chosen not to join the strike are allowed to perform their lawful duties without any form of obstruction.
