COURT JAILS EX-AGF NWABUOKU OVER ₦868M FRAUD

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former acting Accountant-General Chukwunyere Nwabuoku to 72 years in prison after convicting him on multiple counts of money laundering linked to ₦868 million.

The court held that the EFCC proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, finding him guilty of diverting funds meant for security and defence while serving in the Ministry of Defence. The judge described the actions as appalling and a betrayal of public trust.

Although the sentence totals 72 years, it will run concurrently, meaning he will serve them at the same time. Evidence presented in court also showed that he refunded over ₦200 million during the investigation, a claim not challenged by the defence.
